Orville Johnson- Naima

4:34 minutes (5.24 MB)

Late night, snowbound in Seattle, thought i'd throw this out for your consideration. I think I tried to post this a long time ago when the file sizes were smaller and it was too big. Anyway, it's a cut from my someday to be released duet CD, this one with Susan Pascal on vibraphone and me on my Guernsey. The song is a beauty from John Coltrane. It's in Eb and i play the melody in G tuning but lowered my low B to Bb and low G to Eb so I could imitate the pedal tones that the bass player plays on Coltrane's recording during Susan's solo.

Orville Johnson-Bagpipe Jigs

5:46 minutes (5.28 MB)

This is from a session I did for Jori Chisholm For his CD Bagpipe Revolution. Bagpipe and dobro. It's an interesting sound. The first half of the tune is a jig (in 6/8 time, of course) and the bagpipe is tuned to A440. I'm pretty much playing a rhythm part since the bagpipe is wall to wall (kind of hard for a bagpipe to "lay back"). You might find the 6/8 roll pattern I'm doing to be interesting. The second half is played on a different type of pipe that is tuned to A480 and I play acoustic guitar on that section. Jori had me slide up as we finished the first half and then faded that into the new tuning. Neat effect.

PS downloading disabled since its not my tune.

Orville Johnson-The Spell of the Blues

4:14 minutes (5.82 MB)

Just got a copy of this disc I played on with Casey MacGill and His Blue4Trio. Great 30s style harmony vocals with piano, ukelele, cornet, bass, drums, and, on a couple of songs, me playing my Guernsey dobro. I believe we recorded this with an old RCA ribbon mic a little further away from the dobro than I normally would mic it. These guys are great. If you like their style go over to http://www.blue4trio.com/  and check them out.

PS not enabling downloads since its not my tune
