Dobro
1982 OMI Dobro or new Beard Gold Tone
I am in a relatively dead resophonic/dobro zone meaning that if you wanted to purchase something and play it before buying the pickings are slim. There are the normal entry level reso's around, regal, morgan monroe, etc but nothing mid level or high end. I do have a option to purchase one of two different guitars. The first is a 1982 OMI Dobro model 60DN. It's been upgraded with a Quarterman cone, a Beard bone nut and maple saddles with ebony inserts. It's in very good shape and is loud with a nice tone. The other option is a new Gold Tone Beard standard which is a stock Beard GT. The price between the two is only $80 and neither goes over $700 which is the top of my dollar range for now. My question is which would be considered the better choice as an upgrade from a Johnson, a 26 year old OMI or a new Beard GT? All of these are squareneck's by the way. Thanks,
Red Line Reso Debut on YouTube
Local Nashville picker Rob Haines just posted a video of himself playing a Red Line Resophonic guitar on YouTube. Have a look. This particular guitar is made of figured maple and has a spruce top.

COUNTRY PREACHER
Going to try a 1930s dobro.
Hi folks,
I am going to go and try what is apparently a 1930s dobro.
Any tips of how to tell if it is an actual 1930s dobro rather than OMI or whatever?
Also, what I do I look for to tell if it is a Dobro, or a Regal or whatever with a dobro badge?
Also, if someone could give me a guide to serial numbers so I can find out what model it is.
I have doubts that the shop selling it really knows what it is....
