Fishman Pickup

I have had some problems with my Fishman Jerry Douglas bridge insert pickup.  In particular, it appears to not be very even in output from string to string.  I used to think I just had a "one in a million" bad one, but now, in talking to others, it appears that this can be an occasional problem with these pickups.  For mine, the first and second strings were a bit less loud (the unwound strings) and the fourth string was really hot.  I've heard of others that had one or two strings that were either too hot or too dead.  Not much as been posted about this so far.  So my question to the players that are raving about this pickup is this:  did it work perfectly right out of the box, or did you have to try several of them before it all came together?

I'd like to see a step by step instruction, with pictures for installing the new Fishman bridge pickup.  Anyone got it?
