I would bet serious money that this is the former Mike Auldridge owned 'horn, that at various times has been claimed to have "holy grail" status, and has been owned by multiple 'Nation members.

Is it possible for an inanimate object like a guitar to qualify for free air miles? Because this one has some coming...

There was a 2002 L Body for sale at Smoky Mountain Guitars last week for $7500. So this wouldn't appear to be a great deal with an opening bid at the same price.

Interesting.  I've never seen a horn with a three-piece headstock, nor one without the decorative inlay at the tail.

My,this puppy is a world traveler...lol. I know a lot of history on this Horn!....I have been tryin' to put up a video of it on this site, from about two years ago at the Tygh Valley Bluegrass Festival. But my puter keeps dumping it and I can't get it loaded up!.....

I don't know what some of you have heard about this instrument. All I can say is that this is really an awesome sounding guitar ! I recently had the chance to compare it directly with two 1 year old maple L-body 'horns over here. This 1998 can easily keep up with those newer 'horns. And the condition of this instrument is great as well. It seems Tim did a very good job on this guitar. The combination of Scheerhorn cone and Ebonex inserts simply works fantastic on this instrument.
Maybe some of you might think the starting price in USD is too high. But converted to Euro this is quite interesting for people over here in Europe. And that's one of the reasons for that price.

On my website you will find some more instruments for sale. Simply too many instruments in my house......wife is strongly complaining because we need to pay some bills.
I hate to offer it !!!

You are correct, Mark.  It's the Auldridge 'horn and, I can tell you, it's a great sounding guitar.  If my hand hadn't been forced, I'd still have it.  Luckily, fortune has smiled on me and I was able to scrape and scrounge enough to get another maple L body.  All is right in my world.  LOL about the air miles!

Not any more!!! Tee hee!  Tee hee!!!!  BTW, that L body I bought at Smoky Mountain also came with a Calton Case and an Access case cover!!!  I know it's going to blow Mark's head off, but it really WAS a BARGAIN at $7500!!!!

shpiderman qouted Jim below, from early in 2009:

"Jim McNab:
Thanks! It's a keeper for sure!"

shpidey: "(i just wanted to get it on the record, before mcnab had a chance to edit it! ;~)

...good luck with her, oh keeper of the a-horn!!"

Welcome back Jim, you old bargain hunter you!
It's not quite the same around here when Jim goes on a dobro hiatus, he contributes some great posts and kind of livens up the joint. Folks, enjoy it while you can.
Ah, these irreplaceable "holy grail" guitars, and the joy they give to so many folks with changes in ownership. What a beautiful thing ;~)

Once again, I don't have access to any emoticons or fonts in this thread, so it is difficult for me to add flare where needed...

Actually, this post originally was meant for this thread, but ended up on Jim's old thread regarding the former MA owned 'horn. That was a mistake on my part, but maybe it's a good thread to re-visit! LOL
