I stumbled onto this site and was curious if others already new of this company. Acoustic hawaiians for $399.00 is quite a bargain for somebody looking to have a decent inexpensive one around as an extra sound.
Appears to be a good deal. I know there are no solids available but those also look really nice and have ammenities that you wouldn't expect to find on a Wessie for $599.00. Mike

I've not tried the acoustic but I am currently trying out an 8 string gerorge board console, tuned in C6. The single coil PU, hums from my monitor and other electronics a little more than I like. It hums more than an old fender dual 8. Kind of a deal breaker for me.
The craftsmanship is excellent. Its african mahogany. Its capable of a very sweet sound to bluesy depending on amp and effects. The pot goes from a dull warm up to a piercing treble, so I've been keeping it just past warm on the knob. While I like this instrument I prefer the sound of a 53' Fender dual 8 or my 56' New Yorker.

Glad to hear from you George. Beautiful workman ship on your console. It is a single coil, right? Any idea's on reducing hum? Warming up the tone other than the tone pot? Thanks.

My Pickups are sigle coil overwound Lindy Fralin Customs we developed a long time ago.
Look closely at the output wires and see if it has a 3rd colored wire. If so it has an added Copper shield around the coil and connected to the ground plane. If not , I can add the copper shield , or you can for that matter. Copper will only help in raido and television type inductance.
If you take the instrument away from stuff like monitors, TV Sets, transformers , computers and so on it will reduce inducted hums greatly. The Pickups them selvevs do not hum, they pickup hum that exists in the environment. Many folks will pick the guitar up and twist around to find a silent area. This is true with all single coil type pickups. Additionally, when you touch the strings all hums will reduce greatly. I play at an Ice Cream Shoppe , and it is loaded with NEON , Hum city , so I tape a wire to the output jack cover and shuve it in to my socks to ground out to my body for when I lift my hands completely away from the instrument.
Hum is a relative issue, yes single coils pick up inductance (Hum) , In my case our pickups have 98 + db signal to noise ratio. This means from what ever level of noise (Hum) the pickup is 98+ db louder than the level of the noise. What ever noise you are hearing the guitar will be 98 db louder when you play it. This is a tremendous amout of volume over noise.
The Lindy's are super sonic and extremely full range, hence super highs and wide range lows.
There are a few little tricks to get the rolled off tone you are looking for, Simply change the tone-cap. from a .22 to a .47 or .50 this will allow more frequncies to roll off. We wire up similar to the Magnatone , there is a different wire up that the Rick's use that can make it go darker, I also use a 500k on the volume and 250's on the tone, you could change the volume to 250k, to get a little more dark. The Easiest thing is to simply turn the volume down to 8 from 10 , and it will darken a pickup.
Hope this helps.

I have a GB console I bought about 5 years ago. Mahogany. Sadly hasn't seen much play time since then as the reso collection has grown. Absolutely beautiful instrument, though. May just have to get it dusted off and plugged in this week. See if I can get the dogs to howl.
Welcome, George, by the way. I just scrolled through your site and lusted greatly.

Thanks George, that is tremdously helpful information. BTW, I really like the headstock and the tuner arrangements.
Without taking it apart, all I can see on the surface is a white and blue wire from the PU going into a small hole. Perhaps an additional wire is hidden underneath them?
I have a computer monitor and flourescent lights, amplifiers and a bit of other electronic gear. The monitor causes a good amount of the hum in the single coil. Will the copper shield help with an LCD computer monitor (It's actually an LCD HD TV as a computer monitor).

Hello Again , and Thanks for the oppertunity to talk about my instruments and Instructional DVD's.
Will: The pickups have a black and white tiny wire for the main leads the blue wire I add with the copper wrap.
Chances are , your room is somewhat completely quiet in general , and it makes the Hum most noticeable, it is just part of a single coil,s quaity. More little tricks include , play with the instrument all up or nrearly full up. Turn down other inputs and gains, in electronics talk this is called Gain Structure.
Try Moving the guitar around to find the most quiet spot. Listen to the difference when you clik off the tv sets and monitors.
I am wanting to talk more about our Acoustic-Hawaiian lap steel guitars. Is this thread the good place since it started with the AH's?
